MUMBAI: Following the Paris terror attack, the city police issued instructions to all the sleuths to be on alert and additional security to consulates, major banks, five star hotels and public places have been provided.
The terror attack in Paris witnessed over 120 peple being killed on Friday night. “We have issued instrutions to all the police stations to be on alert and gather intelligence about the anti social elements. Moreover, meetings with the guards of private instituions like malls and banks has also been conducted and the guards were briefed about the security arrangment,” said Deven Bharti, joint commissioner of police (Law and Order). The crime branch units,the state anti terrorism squad (ATS) and Mumbai police’s intelligence wing, Special Branch, officials were engaged in conducting meetings about security arrarngment in the city.
Many police stations began checking at the hotels and lodges and cops were also seen making rounds near the cinema halls and places of amusement. “We have also enhanced security at the places of worship including temples, mosques, churches, synagogues etc. The police officials are also scanning their files to check the old timers in henious crimes, their status and gathering information about sleeper cells,” added an officer.
Meanwhile, the government railway police (GRP) and raiwlay protection force (RPF) personnel who are responsible for railwy station security were frisking commuters and monitoring the movements of passengers at various train stations. The CISF, responsible for airport security, was briefed about the fresh security arrangment and protection to the imprtant places was enhanced. “We are monitoring the activities of those who were earlier summoned in terror related cases but not arrested and questioning them about thier current activities and location,” said another officer. Special attention was being given to the four check nakas (exit and entry points) in Mumbai. Additional forces were deployed there too.
