New Delhi Railway Station stampede: Owaisi demands formation of SIT under judicial monitoring
“My deepest condolences to the loved ones of those killed in the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. This is a tragedy that could have been avoided,” he wrote on social media platform ‘X’.
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi expressed grief over the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station and demanded an independent probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under judicial monitoring into the tragedy.
At least 18 people were killed and more than 12 injured in a stampede at New Delhi Railway Station late Saturday night. The stampede broke out after a crowd of passengers rushed to board a train bound for Prayagraj (where the Maha Kumbh has been organised) on platform numbers 14 and 15.
Owaisi, a Lok Sabha member from Hyderabad, also demanded an independent inquiry into the “systemic failures” of the Indian Railways. He wrote on the social media platform ‘X’,
“My deepest condolences to the loved ones of those killed in the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. This is a tragedy that could have been avoided.” Owaisi said, “The BJP government is trying to hide what happened. Instead, this should be done: 1. An independent, judicially monitored SIT should be formed to investigate the tragedy 2. There should be an independent inquiry into the systemic failures of the Indian Railways.” He said that the Indian Railways is the lifeline of millions of Indians and it should not fall prey to the “mismanagement” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.
