Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday hit back at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for saying that the Opposition opposed the land acquisition bill in Parliament.
Sushma Swaraj tweeted asking Rahul to have the courage to speak the truth.
She also tweeted: “While speaking on the bill, Shri Jairam Ramesh told the Lok Sabha on (August 29): ‘I would like to convey my special thanks to leader of opposition because in the two all-parties meetings, it appeared that we will not be able to move any further. But she found the solution and we are discussing the bill in the house today’.”
While speaking on the Bill, Shri Jairam Ramesh told the Lok Sabha on 29.8.2013 :
The law aims to provide fair compensation to those whose land is taken away, brings transparency to the process of land acquisition to set up factories or buildings and assures generous compensation and rehabilitation of those affected by land takeover.
Gandhi charged the opposition parties with creating all possible hurdles in the clearance of the bill that would get them the right price for their land. He said: “I had promised that the Congress would take up this fight against arbitrary acquisition of land and we fought and finally won.”
However, in the Monsoon session of the Parliament, several key bills, including the land acquisition bill, were passed.
He also said that the Uttar Pradesh government wasn’t concerned about the poor and asked the people to press for implementation of food bill in UP. “The food bill provides 35 kg of grain to every family and scheme is applicable nationwide but in Uttar Pradesh it will not be implemented till next year’s elections as the government here feels that the credit would go to the Congress and people would not vote for them.”(HindustanTimes)
