New Delhi,: The Cabinet today cleared amendment in a law that would enable speedy eviction of unauthorised occupants from government residential accommodations allotted for a fixed tenure or till they hold an office.

The decision to change the law has been taken as non-vacation of such residences leads to unavailability of houses to new incumbents, Power, Coal, Renergy and Mines Minister Piyush Goyal said here while briefing media about Cabinet decision.
The amendment has been made in Section 2 and Section 3 of the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1971 (PPE Act, 1971).
