Darjeeling: The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has called for a indefinite bandh in Darjeeling starting on Saturday. GJM leaders have been demanding the formation of a separate state post the Telangana announcement.
The bandh, though, has not been extended to the tea gardens. Five companies of central paramilitary forces have been deployed.
Darjeeling has witnessed a violent fallout of the growing dissent. A police outpost in the Kurseong area was set on fire on Friday.
This comes even as West Bengal Chief Minister has said that West Bengal will remain united and Gorkhaland will not be a separate state. She wrote on her Facebook page, “Telangana cannot be compared with Darjeeling. When everything is settled, why Delhi is insisting to disrupt peaceful situation and play with fire? It is reported that Delhi has directed the GTA persons to go in for a separatist movement. Darjeeling is a part and parcel of our state. We are united and we will remain united. Any conspiracy hatched by a political party and Union Government will be defeated by the people of Darjeeling and West Bengal.”(IBNlive)
